The Victorians-in-space standalone episode looks to be the true wildcard of Doctor Who season 10. Here’s a clip…
Written by Mark Gattiss, ‘Empress of Mars’ looks to be a lot of fun. It’s premise tells us that:
“‘God save the Queen’ has been scrawled on the surface of Mars. What are Victorians doing on the home of the Ice Warriors? And what will they find beneath the Martian soil?”
Even from the ‘Next Time’ clip, it also looks to be another great little historical oddity in Doctor Who season 10 – coming after the regency period-set ‘Thin Ice’.
Featuring a distinctly classic Doctor Who antagonist – which first faced off against the second Doctor back in late 1967’s ‘The Ice Warriors’ – it looks to have a distinct steampunk style to it, too.
Here’s a new clip that shows exactly what we mean…
See? That spacesuit – at least we assume that’s what it is – could’ve come straight out of Bioshock, couldn’t it? We think so… Nice.
And, can we just take a moment to admire Pearl Mackie’s hair, too?
Yes, yes we can.
‘Empress of Mars’ airs on Saturday, June 10th at 7.15pm.
