Peter Capaldi appeared on The Graham Norton Show this weekend and discussed his reasons for leaving Doctor Who.

It was announced in January that he would exit in this year’s Christmas special alongside departing showrunner Steven Moffat.

Capaldi told Graham Norton: “You do twelve episodes a year and I just worry that I wouldn’t be able to continue doing my best work because I like to be able to learn the lines and do some preparation and give it vigour and fun…”

He added: “I just thought, you know, while you’re enjoying it… leave.”

Capaldi has hinted that his Doctor’s upcoming exit will be “more complicated” than recent regenerations.
