The show depicts a society where men live monitored, under a strict nightly curfew.
Streamer Paramount+ have dropped the details of their latest commission, a new UK thriller taking its inspiration from recent headlines.
Headlined by Sarah Parish, Alexandra Burke and Mandip Gill, the show depicts a world where men are strictly regulated.
Here’s the premise for Curfew:
The series takes place in a society where all men live under ‘The Women’s Safety Act’, meaning they are bound by a strict curfew from 7PM to 7AM every night, with their movements tracked by an ankle tag 24 hours a day. When a woman’s body is discovered, brutally murdered during curfew hours and left on the steps of the Women’s Safety Centre, veteran Police officer Pamela Green believes that a man is responsible. But in a world where men are bound by the curfew system, her theory is rejected.
If Pamela proves a man committed this murder, it could bring The Women’s Safety Act crashing down – people in high places are determined to make the curfew a success and will do all it takes to prevent Pamela from discovering the truth.
The premise might seem outlandish, but with recent shocking events like the murder of Sarah Everard, and the government demonstrably capable of imposing lockdowns to ensure public health, perhaps it’s not so far fetched.
The cast
Sarah Parish stars as Pamela, with Mitchell Robertson (Mayflies) as a rookie investigator Eddie who shadows her. Doctor Who’s Mandip Gill plays Sarah, an employee at the local tagging centre where the body is found. Alexandra Burke is Helen, a well-intentioned local schoolteacher and advocate for the curfew.
The series’ lead writer is Lydia Yeoman (The Haze), with Jess Green (Eastenders) and Sumerah Srivastav (Manifest) completing the team. Britannia’s Joasia Goldyn directs.
Executive producers are Allan Niblo, Jane Moore and Nathalie Peter-Contesse, with John Adams producing. The series comes from Vertigo Films (A Town Called Malice), in association with Evolutionary Films.
Curfew will land exclusively on Paramount+ in the UK, with Federation Studios handling global sales.
