The BBC have confirmed the start date for its new comedy Daddy Issues, alongside a short trailer.
Pairing Amiee Lou Wood (Sex Education) and David Morrissey (Sherwood) as a mis-matched daughter and father, Daddy Issues comes from writer Danielle Ward (Brassic).
The show hits the BBC iPlayer from 15th August 2024 and looks like it could be a lot of fun.
Here’s the premise for Daddy Issues…
When hedonistic 24 year old Gemma (Aimee Lou Wood) discovers she’s pregnant after a random hook-up, she has no choice but to turn to her hapless father Malcolm (David Morrissey) for support. Recently divorced from Gemma’s mother (who made off with their joint savings to ‘Eat Pray Love’ her way around the world), Malcolm is unable to load a washing machine, boil an egg or microwave rice without it exploding.
Up until now, he’s been living in squalor with fellow divorcee Derek (David Fynn) but when Gemma’s own flatmate decides to move out, the combination of financial desperation and a desire to not be totally alone makes her resort to the unthinkable: she asks her dad to move in with her. Because what’s the worst that could happen…?
The show also boasts an impressive supporting cast too, including Susannah Fielding (This Time with Alan Partridge) and Damien Molony (Being Human).
The Daddy Issues trailer brands it as coming from BBC Three so, although there’s no date given, we expect it will have a linear airing too.
