The acclaimed drama adds big names to the cast for its second run including David Harewood and Robert Lindsay.
In 2022, James Graham’s Sherwood won plaudits for its gritty portrayal of community and modern-day Britain.
The show returns later this year and the BBC have now released a number of cast images.
Here’s what we know about Sherwood series two:
The second series further explores the powerful themes that made the first so resonant to audiences across the UK. Set in the present day it introduces two new families that find themselves entangled with the Sparrows, entering a complex web of local gangs, old rivalries, revenge, and betrayal.
Meanwhile, a newly appointed Sheriff of Nottingham is passionately fighting against a proposed new mine for the area, which brings the promise of much needed jobs and prosperity but also unwelcome reminders of the legacy that has mired the community for so long.
The cast
The impressive roster of talent in Sherwood includes David Morrissey (Daddy Issues), Lesley Manville (Moonflower Murders), Monica Dolan (The Power of Parker) and David Harewood (Supergirl).
Plus, Lorraine Ashbourne (After The Flood), Robert Lindsay (My Family), Stephen Dillane (The Tunnel) and Robert Emms (Andor).
Also in the ensemble are Sharlene Whyte, Perry Fitzpatrick, Christine Bottomley, Philip Jackson, Aisling Loftus, Bill Jones, Adam Hugill, Ria Zmitrowicz, Michael Balogun, Oliver Huntingdon, Jorden Myrie, Conor Deane and Bethany Asher.
Sherwood series two comes from House Productions and will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One. James Graham has written all six episodes and will be an executive producer on the series.
Clio Barnard (Ali & Ava) is lead director and executive producer. Tom George (See How They Run) directs episodes four, five, & six. The producer is Kate Ogborn (Life After Life). Juliette Howell, Tessa Ross and Harriet Spencer are executive producers for House Productions, with Jo McClellan for the BBC.
