One of the many impressive original commissions that you’ll find lurking on Dave is Dave Gorman’s hugely impressive Modern Life Is Goodish. Based around the kind of Powerpoint presentations that have become his trademark, the show’s fifth series is just coming to an end. But now, Gorman has announced that it’ll be the last.
In a post on his website, Gorman has gone into detail on the amount of work that he puts into each block of recording for the show, and how he’s been putting in over 100 hours a week at peak times.
“Three or four times a week during that time I start work at 10am, work through to 5am try to get some sleep… and am at my desk by 10am later that morning to carry on. And while it doesn’t happen every time, there are plenty of occasions where I work through the night and into the next day without sleep because I won’t meet the deadlines otherwise”.
“And it’s simply not possible to keep doing that without making yourself ill. In series 1 we didn’t really know what we were letting ourselves in for when it was set up and as a result we only had two weeks between recordings. It’s probably not a coincidence that I fainted on stage during the taping of episode 6”.
Paying tribute to Dave for taking a chance on the show in the first place, Gorman admitted that his decision to go on tour next year effectively helped make the choice for him. And as he aims to take on more live work, he’s decided to bring Modern Life Is Goodish to an end.
A pity. But on the upside, as it’s on Dave, it’ll still feel as though it’s around forever. It’s not like it’s not going to get endless repeats, is it?
