Dead Boy Detectives trailer released

Dead Boy Detectives trailer lands ahead of this month’s release

Posted Filed under

Netflix has released a Dead Boy Detectives trailer — we have to say we’re getting more excited for this month’s release!

In fact, not only do we have a trailer, we also have a slew of new images to go with it, as well as some introductions to the characters. There’s plenty to find out in the Netflix blog post, but we’ve picked out some highlights to save you some time.

What is the show about and who is in it?

Based on characters created for DC by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, the eight-episode supernatural series follows two teenage sleuths tracking down the world’s most pesky ghosts and demons. There’s Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), “the brains” and “the brawn” behind the detective agency. Beware, these sleuths aren’t human — they’re both ghosts and best friends. Although they’re dead and born decades apart, they’ve chosen to remain on Earth and use their powers for good.

Their investigations take them on some spooky quests, from run-ins with evil witches to fights with bloody monsters. With a little help from a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), the gang cracks some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal occurrences and will eventually land their biggest case yet.

Is there a connection to The Sandman?

Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste)
Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste)

Yes there is. If you read the comic book collections, The Sandman season 1 draws from  a lot of volume 1. Assuming season 2 crosses into the core of season 2, we should get the origin of the Dead Boy Detectives so we expect to see Rexstrew and Revri appear in season 2 of The Sandman, whenever it comes out. As an aside, The Sandman season 2 was recently filming in Brighton, so we imagine the show won’t hit Netflix until much later this year at the earliest.

On the subject of crossovers, we do have an appearance by Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) who appears in the Dead Boy Detectives trailer (see below).

Where is the Dead Boy Detectives trailer, and when is the show coming to Netflix?

The show comes to Netflix on April 25. The trailer is just below, and we have to say our overwhelming impression was this looks to be fun. We can’t wait to see if we’re right later this month!
