Doctor Who Series 12: photos from South Africa filming

Posted Filed under

Some photos related to Doctor Who filming near Cape Town, South Africa have emerged from the official Doctor Who, Mandip Gill’s and Tosin Cole’s and one other Instagram account.

Details are scant but it appears that the bulk of the filming is occurring in a remote area of South Africa with access to both the mountains and the seashore. While the cast is staying in Cape Town, they are transported to a filming base daily, possibly situated in Table Mountain National Park.

In fact, quite a few scenes have been filmed on an unknown beach.

Here are the photos:

Former Doctor Who Production Designer Edward Thomas, who is also in South Africa, shared this selfie of himself with Chris Chibnall. Incidentally, the Doctor Who Series 11 Production Designer Arwel Wyn Jones is not involved in Series 12, having chosen to work with Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss on Dracula. There is no word on who was chosen for Doctor Who Series 12 Production Designer.

One of the crew members in South Africa is assigned two episodes, they are Episodes 1 and 5 but, as we saw with Series 11 production, the numbering of the episodes can change.

Former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, in the video below with fellow former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, joked that the filming in South Africa will go on for ten weeks. No, only three weeks, ending the first full week of February. There will be a night shoot on location for Doctor Who on the streets of Cardiff on February 10.

Doctor Who Series 12 will air very early in 2020.
