Doctor Who stars Peter Capaldi and Ncuti Gatwa meet at Scottish BAFTA awards

Past and future Doctor actors Peter Capaldi and Ncuti Gatwa posed for a Doctor Who photo opportunity at the Scottish BAFTA awards.

The two Scottish Doctors laughed and genially conversed with each other as photos were snapped.

Capaldi was at the ceremony to accept the award for Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television.

Capaldi revealed that Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat was “looking for a new Doctor Who” when they met for the first time at the Scottish BAFTAs and “he took me on the most magical journey, a journey that Ncuti is about to embark on.”

“And I suspect Ncuti knows this already because I can see it in his heart and see it in him. But he’s about to discover how beautiful and wonderful and cosmic the human race can really be,” he said as Gatwa smiled from the audience.

Gatwa was present at the ceremony because he was nominated for Actor Television. The award went to Dougray Scott.

Gatwa revealed that his Doctor’s look has not yet been chosen. The fifteenth Doctor’s costume will likely be a collaboration between Gatwa and designer Pam Downe.

Ncuti Gatwa will begin his new adventures as the fifteenth Doctor with Millie Gibson as companion Ruby Sunday over the festive period in 2023.
