The mighty Tom Baker has given a new interview to GQ magazine, where he’s been chatting about the Doctors who followed him into the TARDIS. And in particular, he’s been talking about Christopher Eccleston’s take on Doctor Who, that – of course – only lasted for one series.
“I thought it was amazing that Eccleston stayed so little time”, Baker admitted. “I think that was a wonky contract that didn’t take an option for an extra season”.
Baker is a huge fan of Eccleston, though, saying “he’s very rare. I caught a glimpse of him. He was a very powerful actor. A very powerful actor”.
It’s an interesting interview, where Baker admits he doesn’t know most of the other Doctors very well, save for liking Sylvester McCoy a lot. And in terms of who he’d suggest for the role of the Doctor in the future? Baker’s suggestion is Dawn French, “because she’s got a wry sense of humour and also a way with her that faintly [suggest] she’s got secrets”.
The full interview – by our old chum Cameron McEwan – can be read here.
