Channel 4 have set the first episode of The Great British Bake Off, if first is really the right word, for Tuesday 29 August at 8pm. This would put it head-to-head with the BBC’s The Big Family Cookery Show, which features former Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain, and thus the BBC have decided to move their show to Thursdays instead.
It seems like the BBC had put their show on Tuesday in the first place, expecting Channel 4 to follow tradition and keep Bake Off on Wednesdays. How charmingly naive.
So that’s Bake Off on Tuesdays, Big Family on Thursdays. Right. Not next week, the one after. Got it.
And I think Masterchef is on Wednesdays, right? What are we supposed to do from Friday to Monday? Watch people notcooking instead?
Catch up TV would seem to make this schedule shifting less of a concern, but I have found that Channel 4’s All 4 service can be pretty glitchy, certainly compared to the iPlayer, so I’m glad I won’t be needing to use it. It’s already put me off playing keep-up with Dicte.
Let’s all meet back here at 9pm on 29 August and gossip about the new Bake Off.
