Futurama series 11 takes on the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture and streaming TV.

Back in late 2022, there was much excitement when the Disney owned US streamer Hulu recommissioned Futurama. The science-fiction animated comedy, a sister show to The Simpsons, has suffered a chequered of history of cancellations and revivals.

Despite some doubt over whether actor John DiMaggio would return to voice fan favourite Bender – he later closed a deal – all has been quiet on the Futurama front since.

Now, Hulu have announced that the show returns with new episodes on July 24th, 2023. The news came with a brief trailer showcasing a few familiar faces…

There’s a synopsis for Series 11 too:

“After a brief 10-year hiatus, Futurama has crawled triumphantly from the cryogenic tube, its full original cast and satirical spirit intact. The 10 all-new episodes of season 11 have something for everyone. New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries—including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles. Meanwhile there’s a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV.”

The show’s vocal cast includes John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman.

Futurama is a creation of Matt Groening, developed by Groening and David X. Cohen.

Whether the show will land internationally on the same date (on Disney+) remains to be seen – fingers crossed!

We’ll keep you posted.
