The infamous autobiography is due to become a biopic very soon.
Described as “compelling and utterly revolting” by Rolling Stone, The Dirt: Confessions Of The World’s Most Notorious Rock Band pretty much sets the high (or is it low?) bar as far as tales of rock’n’roll excess go. Written by the band members themselves, alongside Neil Strauss, it tells the tale of 80s rockers Motley Crue from inside the band’s hedonistic bubble, and pulls no punches in painting a vivid picture of just what goes no when there are virtually no rules.
It’s little surprise that such a salacious and star-studded story would eventually attract the attention of Hollywood filmmakers, and rumours of The Dirt‘s transition to the big screen have been around for a while. Now, however, it looks like a cast is coming together, with filming rumoured to be getting underway in February.
Indeed, yesterday The Hollywood Reporter was insisting that former Misfits and Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon, known for playing Ramsey Bolton/Snow in the latter, is negotiating his way into the cast to play the role of guitarist Mick Mars. Rheon has also recently been appearing in Marvel’s Inhumans as Maximus, though the future of that show is somewhat in doubt.
Also in the running to join the band is Daniel Webber, who put in an eye-catching turn in Netflix’s The Punisher. He, the story asserts, is being lined up to play frontman Vince Neil.
If all goes to plan, behind the camera will be director Jeff Tremaine, who has helmed much of the Jackass movie oeuvre, his last credit movie credit as director being 2013’s Bad Grandpa. We’re not sure whether that’s a bad or a good sign for The Dirt, to be honest.
