The much-loved sitcom returns for one final festive outing on December 25th.
After a flurry of speculation in February, roundly denied by all, the BBC have confirmed that Gavin & Stacey is coming back.
However, there’s a twist in the tale – the show is returning for one last Christmas Special.
Writers James Corden and Ruth Jones said:
“Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James ❤️”
Gavin & Stacey follows the entangled lives and families of Essex lad Gavin Shipman and his Welsh girlfriend, now wife, Stacey West.
While Matthew Horne and Joanna Page star, co-creators and writers Corden and Jones play the pair’s two best friends, Smithy and Nessa. The wider cast includes Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, Melanie Walters and Rob Brydon.
The show originally ran between 2007 – 2010, growing into a monster hit and graduating from BBC Three to BBC One. It left viewers wanting more and returned for a festive catch-up in 2019, dominating the schedules with a whopping 19 million viewers and ending on a proposal cliffhanger.
Gavin & Stacey: The Finale will air on BBC One on Christmas Day 2024.
We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, the show’s entire back catalogue is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
