Get ready to say goodbye to Button House as Ghosts is laid to rest!
Their haunted shenanigans have entertained us since 2019, but the BBC have revealed that the upcoming series of Ghosts will be its last.
The team behind the sitcom, who famously came together while working on Horrible Histories, have decided that it is time to focus on new projects.
“After five incredible years haunting the halls of Button House, we have decided that the time is right to let our beloved sitcom Ghosts rest in peace. We have just wrapped filming on our fifth and final series and we can’t wait to share it with you all later this year.
“We could never have imagined the reception the show has enjoyed, or the fun we have had making it, and we would like to thank our amazing cast and crew as well as everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC One and Monumental Television for their tireless support
But most of all we’d like to thank everyone who watches. Mathew, Martha, Simon, Jim, Laurence and Ben x”
The show has been an incredible success for BBC One with its fourth season scoring a BAFTA nomination. It was the biggest comedy series of the year in terms of audiences across broadcast TV, with 5.7 million viewers tuning in for episode 1 (30 days data).
Ghosts Series 5
In the upcoming final series, Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) begin exploring other means of making ends meet. They also contemplate a new chapter that could have a huge effect on the Ghosts’ (after) lives.
Ghosts is made by Monumental Television production in association with Them There for the BBC.
The show’s six creators are its executive producers, alongside Monumental’s Alison Carpenter, Debra Hayward and Alison Owen. It’s produced by Pat Tookey-Dickson, directed by Simon Hynd.
Ghosts US
Of course, the show has also spawned an American incarnation too. That version has enjoyed two seasons on CBS, with a third in the works. Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar star, with the first season available to UK viewers on BBC iPlayer.
Comic Relief 2023
The show also contributed a mini-episode to Comic Relief’s recent Red Nose Day, starring special guest Kylie Minogue. For us, it was the sketch highlight of the night.
We’ll keep you posted on Ghosts series 5 – and don’t forget to donate to Comic Relief too!
