Goodnight Sweetheart is heading to the stage

The time-dashing sitcom Goodnight Sweetheart originally ran between 1993 and 1999, and followed Nicholas Lyndhurst’s Gary Sparrow, as he jumped between the 1940s and the present day. Oh, and managing two relationships with two different women as he did so. Nothing dodgy about that. Not at all. Family friendly stuff.

The show was briefly revived by the BBC last year, but now its creators, Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, have confirmed that the mooted stage adaptation is happening too.

They’ve overseen a musical that’ll debut in Romford next September. The aim is then to shape the production, and build it up for a full West End outing in 2019.

The musical is set to use music from both the 1940s and 1980s. As we hear more, we’ll let you know…
