Harlots, the Hulu-ITV production following a group of 18th century prostitutes in Georgian London, has been renewed for a second series, it was confirmed at the Television Critic’s Association press tour.
The show was a hit with critics, who found the self-prescribed “whore’s eye view” of these women’s lives refreshing in the face of the majority of television, which almost always tells its stories through the male gaze. Producer Alison Owen also highlighted the opportunity to use period bad language not on contemporary lists of banned words.
“Nobody wants to see a timid piece of work,” fellow producer Moira Buffini said previously.
Samantha Morton, Jessica Brown Findlay and Lesley Manville star.
Harlots will return for its second season, at least on Hulu, in 2018.
