Since launching in 2014, BoJack Horseman has proved itself to be one of the funniest and most thoughtful offerings in the Netflix Originals canon. That’s why we’re very excited to clap eyes on the first trailer for the show’s fifth season.

Season 4 closed out with BoJack discovering that Hollyhock is actually his half-sister. BoJack was also coerced into signing up for a new TV show by a desperate Princess Carolyn. Diane meanwhile, was going through marital turmoil with Mr Peanutbutter.

While we wait for the show to return on September 14th, Netflix has released this BoJack Horseman season 5 trailer to tide us over…

The trailer shows us that BoJack is now the star of a series named Philbert, although he’s still struggling with alcoholism and a whole host of other troubles. He wants to get better, as Diane puts it, but doesn’t know how.

This promo video is also full of the meta humour that we’ve come to expect from the show. We particularly love this line from Princess Carolyn: “It’s confusing, which means the show is daring and smart.”

There are also glimpses of some dark storylines and some far-out visuals, which fills us with hope that BoJack season 5 can live up to some of the incredibly ambitious episodes it’s following on from. Lest we forget the silent underwater episode from season 3 or the heart-crushing Time’s Arrow from season 4.
