Anthony Head, who played Giles in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, is “amazed” that the show keeps reaching new audiences and earning more fans. Buffy ended its televised run on The WB in 2003, but thanks to the magic of box-sets and online streaming, new people keep discovering the series and falling in love with it.
Speaking on Sunday Brunch, Head said this: “What I’m amazed about, of all the things that I’ve done, I still get young people coming up to me, whether it’s Merlin or something else, with Buffy it’s like ‘Wow!'”
“There’s a new generation that came on board, and it’s basically because it’s still relevant,” Head added. “Because it’s about growing up and it’s about finding your place in society – it’s just brilliantly written. The first season is a little dated now, but once it gets into its groove, it stands out.”
As for whether he would return to the character of Giles if the occasion arose, Head seems to like the idea of returning to the world of Buffy for an animated series:
“I think if [showrunner Joss Whedon] could do the animated series that he originally wanted to do, that would be quite a good reboot. Because the comic book, they’re in series 11, he’s kept it going in comic books, but he backed off the TV.”
It would be brilliant to hear the Buffy cast reunited in animated form, picking up where the live-action series left off. But even if that never happens, we will always have those incredible seven seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, which continue to hit the right notes with generations of new fans.
More Buffy news as we hear it.
