Doctor Who actor Stewart Beven dies at age 73

Stewart Bevan, who played Professor Clifford Jones in the Doctor Who Season 10 television story The Green Death, has died at the age of 73.

Bevan’s character, Professor Clifford Jones, was the love interest of companion Jo Grant (Katy Manning) and the two character’s engagement was the impetus for Jo to end her adventures with the third Doctor (Jon Pertwee).

Bevan also voiced Inspector Nettles in the Big Finish Iris Wildthyme audio story Midwinter Murders and BOSS in the Torchwood audio story The Green Life. He reprised his role as Cliff Jones for two special scenes, Hello Boys!, created to announce the new Blu-ray edition of the Season 10 box set and Return of the Autons doing the same for Season 8.

Bevan starred in the film To Sir With Love with Sidney Poitier. Other film credits include Brannigan, The Ghoul, Lock Up Your Daughters!, Burke & Hare, The Flesh and Blood Show, and Steptoe and Son Ride Again.

He appeared in many television shows such as Blakes 7, Casualty, Emmerdale, Shoestring, The Onedin Line, Ivanhoe, Nanny, Grange Hill, The House of Eliott, and Brookside.

Born 10 March 1948, Stewart Bevan is survived by his two daughters Coral and Wendy Bevan with his wife Virginia Moore, who starred with him in Emmerdale.
