Jodie Whittaker is sort-of playing a doctor on our TV screens tonight in the new TV drama Trust Me, and so she’s been doing promotional work for it. In an interview on BBC 6 Music, the small matter of her upcoming stint as our favourite Time Lord of course came up.
Whittaker admitted that she didn’t see the reaction to her casting in Doctor Who come in, as she’s not on social media, but did say that “it was incredibly emotion… I’m about to play an alien, a Time Lord, as a girl”, adding that “the fans are the most creative and enthusiastic people and it’s so exciting to be a part of that”.
“The best thing about this part is that every script will be brand new and something that I can genuinely say I’ve never done this before”, she said.
“I hope my gender isn’t a fearful thing”, she told the BBC. “In this world, there aren’t rules”.
Whittaker takes on the role of the Doctor this Christmas, at the end of Twice Upon A Time.
