New Doctor Who star Pearl Mackie has revealed that she feels “touched” by the response from fans since her introduction.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time actress was officially announced as the Doctor’s new companion last month.

Writing in the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine, Mackie thanked Doctor Who fans for their “incredible dedication and unapologetic Whovian love”, saying that “this fandom cannot be contained by time and space.”

She added: “…as a newcomer to this amazing community, your beautifully warm welcome is something I will never forget.”

Mackie begins filming in July and the new season will air on BBC One in spring 2017.

She teased: “I really hope you all love Bill as much as I did when I first read the script. I cannot wait to see where her adventures with the Doctor will take her.”
