Doctor Who writer Peter Harness has revealed that he’d “love to carry on” BBC One’s Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.
His seven-part adaptation of Susanna Clarke’s epic novel concluded last night.
Speaking exclusively to CultBox to promote the show’s release on DVD and Blu-ray this week, Harness told us: “I’m sure that if Susanna wrote a sequel, then we’d do our best to make it happen. I mean, I’d love to carry on writing Strange and Norrell for as long as possible.”
He added: “I’ve never loved doing a job so much. If there were ten books, I’d be doing it forever and I think I’d be very happy with that. It would be impossible to get bored of doing it. I love the world, and I love those characters, and I love Susanna’s imagination and heart.”
Asked if there was any possibility of a TV-only follow-up featuring an all-new story, he commented: “As for making a TV-only-follow-up, I think it’s unlikely.”
