Following the conclusion of The X-Files’ recent eleventh season, Gillian Anderson confirmed that she was moving on from the role of Dana Scully. And with her departure from the show, the strong suggestion from the Fox network was that The X-Files was done and dusted. That there wouldn’t be a season 12.
Now, the network has announced its slate for the coming season, and the show is absent from it. Furthermore, in a conference call, co-chairman and CEO of the Fox network has confirmed that “there are no plans to do another season at the moment”.
That doesn’t shut the door completely, but for the time being at least, the show’s run is done. That’s in spite of its creator, Chris Carter, confirming that he has plans for more.
As it stands, the cliffhanger at the end of season 11 – that we won’t spoil here – might just be your lot, though. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
