A new book about the costumes of Game Of Thrones has revealed that Sansa’s final costume, from the Game Of Thrones season 8 finale, includes a tiny detail that harks back to the Red Wedding…
In the upcoming book Game Of Thrones: The Costumes, costume designer Michele Clapton goes into detail about her much-praised work on HBO’s fantasy mega-hit. A Vanity Fair article has shared some excerpts from the book online, which is where today’s nugget of news comes from.
Sophie Turner’s final Sansa costume contains a whole basket’s worth of Easter eggs, including some dark feathering that harks bark to her black costume, some recycled material from Margaery Tyrell’s wedding dress, and some fish scale detailing that pays tribute to Catelyn Stark. There is also a tiny wolf head, which represents Sansa’s direwolf, Lady. There are nods to Littlefinger, Arya and Cersei as well.
But perhaps of most interest is Sansa’s crown, which shows two direwolf heads coming together. This is a direct nod to a cape-holding clasp that Robb Stark wore during the Red Wedding…
Michele Clapton notes that this was a very deliberate reference. It was meant to represent, in Sansa’s final outfit, that “the North remembers.” We could probably also read something into the fact that the direwolves on Robb’s cape were heading downwards, while the ones of Sansa’ crown are rising up.
We’ll keep bringing you interesting bits of Game Of Thrones news as we hear them.
