Game Of Thrones season 8 has “a lot of similarities” with season 1

Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in Game Of Thrones, has been chatting about the upcoming eighth and final season of HBO’s huge fantasy hit. Apparently, there is a lot of common ground between the first and last season…

In a big new interview with Rolling Stone, Williams offered this cryptic tease about Game Of Thrones season 8: “After I read Season Eight, I watched Season One — there’s a lot of similarities.”

What exactly could that mean? Game Of Thrones season 1, of course, began with a royal visit to Winterfell, before chronicling Ned Stark’s tough life as Hand Of The King in the capital. Ned discovered Joffrey’s true parentage, before having his head chopped off in the penultimate episode. The final shot of the season saw Daenerys Targaryen emerging from the flames with her three newborn dragons. It’ll be interesting to see which moments or themes from that first season are paralleled or paid off in this final run.

“I feel very satisfied with the ending of the entire show,” says Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner in the same interview. “Every story arc came to a really good close.”

We look forward to finding out for ourselves what the final season holds, when it premieres on HBO, Sky Atlantic and Now TV on April 14.
