Speaking exclusively to CultBox, Marchant commented: “It had a very loyal, engaged audience and we certainly had some other very good cases to dramatise.”
The BBC confirmed earlier this year that the period legal drama, inspired by the life of the pioneering 18th-century barrister, would not be returning.
Discussing what would have happened in Series 4, the writer explained: “There would have been a ‘medical negligence’ storyline involving Lady Sarah in childbirth in a time when the power of male doctors was unassailable and death in childbirth common enough not to raise questions about the ability of doctors.”
Starring Andrew Buchan, Mark Letheren, Lyndsey Marshal, Rupert Graves and Alun Armstrong, Series 3 concluded on BBC One last December.
