Steve Stamp and Allan Mustafa are developing a new sitcom entitled Gary1987. Stamp and Mustafa are best known for playing Steves and Grindah in People Just Do Nothing, which they co-created with Asim Chaudhry and Hugo Chegwin.
This time around, for Gary1987, Stamp and Mustafa are working with Bryan Elsley (creator of Skins) and Jack Clough (who directed episodes of both People Just Do Nothing and Skins) to develop the series. It seems likely that they will star in it, too.
Gary1987‘s story will focus on a chap named Gary who ventures into a world of virtual reality in a bid to make some dosh, only to find himself seriously out of his depth.
Bryan Elsey said this about the announcement:
“I’m beyond happy to be teaming up with the hilarious People Just Do Nothing team. Their freewheeling comedy style and off the wall flavour makes irresistible viewing. Balloon Entertainment is committed to working in innovative ways with strong emerging talent. Steve, Allan and Jack fit this bill exactly and we look forward to some glorious semi improvised characters, doing truly stupid things.”
Entertainment One is producing the series, with plans to secure distribution around the globe.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more details.
