He’s one of the busiest men in showbiz, but Idris Elba will be back on BBC One for Luther series 5.
The news was officially confirmed over at DigitalSpy, who spoke to writer Neil Cross about what might be coming for the character of John Luther following a shortened fourth series that aired back in late 2015.
He said: “Now what? It’s a question Idris and I get asked a lot… It can’t be over, can it? There’s so much we don’t know. So much unfinished business. The thing is, we’ve been asking ourselves the same question.
“I’m scared of the monsters. The face at the window. The hand under the bed. The shadow at the end of the street. Who’s going to stop them, if not John Luther?”
Not much is known about what a fifth outing for the show might entail, but a movie version of the series starring Elba has been vaguely teased for years.
Adding to Cross’ comments, Elba said of the return: “Neil, the BBC and I have been talking about a further season and I am thrilled that we have been able to bring it all together. I look forward to putting the coat back on.”
Until then, the actor will be visiting our screens in films including The Dark Tower and Thor: Ragnorok.
