Jeremy Renner will reprise his Marvel Cinematic Universe role as Clint Barton/Hawkeye in a new TV series for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. Here’s everything we know…
Renner has been popping up in Marvel movies as this arrow-firing hero since the first Thor movie, notably being brainwashed by Loki in The Avengers and then banged up in Captain America: Civil War for fighting against the government’s stance on superheroes. He’ll next be seen in Avengers: Endgame, the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War.
Fans have long been calling for Renner’s Hawkeye to get his own standalone project, not least because there are some brilliant Hawkeye solo comics in the Marvel back-catalogue.
Variety broke the news that a Hawkeye series is in development at Disney+, the soon-to-launch streaming service that will be the Mouse House’s rival to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
“The project is said to be an adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop”, Variety states. This will be music to the ears of comic book fans, especially those who have read and loved the bantering mentorship between Clint and Kate in print.
The Avengers: Endgame trailers already featured a shot of Hawkeye training a female mentee, and this looks to be Marvel’s plan for following up that tease.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
