Idris Elba has announced that there are plans for a new series of Luther.

The crime drama’s third series aired on BBC One last year and was believed to be the show’s final TV outing.

Elba has now told TVLine: “It’s not over. There will be more.”

He explained: “I have ambitions to take it into a film and make it a slightly bigger world, but I think television is beckoning [so] we’re going to do some more.”

The Thor actor also revealed that Ruth Wilson would be back as Alice if a new series happens: “If we come back, Alice will come back.”

Writer Neil Cross previously declared that there was no chance Luther would return for a fourth series, commenting: “The show’s finished.”
