It’s official – Meghan Markle leaving Suits after season 7

Posted Filed under

It’s just a formality at this point, but official confirmation that Meghan Markle will exit legal drama Suits at the end of the current season has been released.

The show’s network released a statement, saying: “From all of us at USA Network and Universal Cable Productions, we want to send our most heartfelt congratulations to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement. Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her. We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to Suits, and we wish her the very best.”

It may be unusual circumstances, but it’s not uncommon for series regulars to begin exiting when contracts run out on a long-running series. No word yet on the status of Patrick J. Adams, who was also rumoured to be leaving, but season eight of Suits still seems likely.

29/11/2017: So the first half of this story isn’t what you’d call unexpected. Suits star Meghan Markle’s exit from the show has been rumoured since her high-profile relationship with a certain prince was made public, but news today suggests that she won’t be the only one leaving after season seven wraps up.

Patrick J. Adams, one of the blokes on the poster, is also planning to leave the show when his contract expires.

Hoping for the best, series creator Aaron Korsh told TVLine a while back: “They all have things going on in their lives, we’ll see what happens. This is true on all long-running shows, and people have things happening in their lives. When Gina left, I could not have predicted that the way her life was going. She loved being on the show, and we loved having her on the show, that’s why we’re doing the spinoff.

“I would never have guessed that she would want to leave early but she did, and it ended up working out. Even though she left early, look at how often we still see Jessica throughout season six and seven. I’m going to let what happens happens and hope it all works out.”
