Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency was one of the breakthrough shows of 2016, and it’s coming back later this year with a couple of top-notch additions to it’s mayhem.
Yesterday, BBC America – which airs the show in the US – announced that British actor John Hannah (currently in Agents Of Shield, and last seen on UK TV in Marley’s Ghosts) and Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Rogue One‘s K2-SO, Dodgeball‘s Steve The Pirate – you know, that guy), would be appearing in the new run as guest stars. They’ll join current stars Elijah Wood (Todd) and Samuel Barnett (Dirk) in the next instalments of Max Landis’ show, which will stream on Netflix everywhere but America.
Hannah will play a character called the Mage; “a powerful wizard who takes great pleasure in doing evil and is seeking to conquer a world not his own”, while Tudyk will play Mr. Priest; a ruthless, dangerous, and violent bounty hunter working for Blackwing – the shadowy organisation that plays a major part in Dirk’s backstory.
Loosely – and we really mean that – based on the novels of the peerless Douglas Adams, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency’s first series succeeded in creating a blend of comedy, thriller and sci-fi that fell on the right side of watchable. If you haven’t taken time to seek it out on Netflix yet, we’d recommend you do. Driven along well by the on-screen chemistry of the central stars, it has enough batty plots and sub-plots to keep everyone guessing for it series run.
Here’s hoping these new additions can bring something even better to season 2.
There will be more news on Dirk Gently‘s streaming dates when we get it.
