The BBC has revealed new storyline information for this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special.
‘The Return of Doctor Mysterio’ will air on Sunday 25 December on BBC One.
Written by showrunner Steven Moffat and directed by Ed Bazalgette (Poldark), the episode will be 60 minutes long.
The official synopsis reads: “This Christmas sees The Doctor join forces with a masked Superhero for an epic New York adventure.
“With brain-swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost.
“Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask?”
Character names for the special’s guest cast have also been released.
Alongside Peter Capaldi as The Doctor and Matt Lucas as Nardole, Justin Chatin will play Grant, Charity Wakefield will play Lucy, Tomiwa Edun will play Mr Brock, and Aleksandar Jovanovic will play Dr Sim.

Steven Moffat’s final season of Doctor Who has been filming in Cardiff since June and will begin airing on BBC One in April 2017.
