After a seven year absence, CBBC’s fantasy adventure show Raven is returning to the channel.
UPDATE: We now have a transmission date for the return of Raven! The show is back on CBBC from December 4th, at 3.5opm. There will be an episode every weekday after that, before the grand final on December 22nd. There will be 15 half hour episodes in all.
The original Raven show ran for 260 episodes between 2002 and 2010, and was hosted by James Mackenzie. He then guided a bunch of children – or warriors, in show speak – across five days of challenges. The least successful warrior would eventually be eliminated, before two made it through to the final. Accurately, the show is often described as a cult hit.
The new version of the show is being described as a “re-imagining”, with a new format, and a brand new star.
This time, Aisha Toussaint (who plays Jules Belmont in River City) is going to be leading the warriors through their challenges. In a statement to the BBC, she said that “I used to dream of one day being a warrior contestant – I never for a second imagined that I’d one day be Raven. My 11-year-old self would be gobsmacked!”.
The BBC announcement adds that “with an intriguing back story for the new lead and lots of exciting and action-packed challenges, the series expands and develops the format of the original to make it appeal to a whole new generation of viewers”.
