Legal drama Suits has officially had it’s 8th season ordered. The news comes amid news of the premiere of the second half of series 7 and the announcement that two of its leads of officially leaving the show. There was little doubt that Megan Markle would be leaving the show, owing to her recent engagement to Prince Harry. It’s understandable, becoming a member of the royal family will provide the actress a wealth of engagements that filming would be impossible.
However, the shock announcement is that Patrick J Adams will also be departing the show by the time the season 7 finale is aired in April. It might be a blow to some fans, but Adams himself has indicated that his character’s story has been told and this is a perfect time to be bowing it. It may also serve as a happy ending for the couple; something fans may take issue with if the departure of Markle had lead to Rachel and Mike parting ways.
There is no indication that any other original cast member is set to leave and as it’s believe the show is wrapped, it should be safe to say that we will not be saying goodbye to named partner’s Harvey Specter or Louis Litt any time soon.
The showrunners have announce the upgrade of Dule Hill’s character from guest star to regular in order to fill the void. It is still unknown whether Adams will make guest star appearances in much the same way Gina Torres character has throughout much of series 7, but he certainly hasn’t ruled it out. Torres is due to star in the much anticipated Suits spin off that will have its back door pilot during the Spring return of the show.
