Supergirl season 4 will feature activist Nicole Maines as a new character named Nia Nal, a trans woman that is set to take up the superhero identity of Dreamer. And thanks to a new teaser trailer, we now have our first look at Maines in the show.
In this new teaser, which has been given the title ‘American Alien’, we see Melissa Benoist’s Kara Zor-El offering a few words of advice to Nia, within the offices of CatCo. It’s unclear if Kara has any idea, at this point, that Nia is on her own heroic path…
On the topic of fear, while Nia looks on, Kara offers these wise words in the trailer:
“No matter how much we believe in ourselves, that never really goes away. I think, ‘I’m not afraid of anything’, then something chases me back down the rabbit hole. But once we catch ourselves, we have to jump right back out there.”
In the comics, Nia Nal is an alien from the planet Naltor. She has precognitive abilities, which come in handy when thwarting evil plans and battling tough villains.
Nia is traditionally a member of the Legion Of Super-Heroes in the 30th and 31st centuries, but it’s unclear whether Supergirl will keep that bit of her backstory after having featured the Legion rather heavily in the previous season.
Supergirl will return to The CW, for American viewers, on Sunday October 14th. Sky’s UK air date is usually a week later, but we’ll let you know as soon as they confirm it…
