Filming has just wrapped on season 2 of Amazon’s The Boys

Karl Urban has finished filming on season 2 of Amazon’s The Boys, where he leads the cast as brutal superhero-killer Billy Butcher, and he’s revealed that the sophomore run of the ultraviolent comic book adaptation will be released in “mid 2020”.

In an interview with Collider, co-creator Evan Goldberg teased that The Boys season 2 is “definitely better than the first season” saying “immediately, it just looks a bit better, feels bigger, the actors all know what they’re doing.”

His partner in crime, Seth Rogen, added: “They already have more resources for the second season. They’re adding more characters, the scope of the show organically grows as the show continues. We just watched, actually, the first episode of the second season this week. It was a wonderful thing as producers. This is way better than I ever could’ve hoped it would be.”

Proving that filming on The Boys season 2 would be no less bloody than its predecessor, showrunner Eric Kripke previously shared this photo of Jack Quaid’s Hughie Campbell, Laz Alonso’s Mother’s Milk, Tomer Capon’s Frenchie and Karen Fukuhara’s Kimiko. In the anarchic style you’d expect, they’re all covered in blood and flipping the bird…

With The Boys‘ first season having done the heavy lifting of introducing the eponymous gang of superhero-haters, as well as establishing the darkly comic cabal of the supes, the show’s second season is now free to shoot off in even more interesting directions.

There is, of course, the matter of the first season’s big cliff-hanger ending to explain. It’ll be interesting to see how Urban’s Butcher and Antony Starr’s Homelander deal with the fallout from that!

We don’t have a trailer or an exact release date for The Boys season 2 just yet, but we’ll let you know when that changes.
