For season three and four of Netflix’s ultra-expensive period drama The Crown, Olivia Colman is stepping into the lead role of Queen Elizabeth II. She takes over from Claire Foy, whose acclaimed worked on the show has rightly brought her awards recognition.
There’s still casting to slot into place ahead of the start of production, but Colman – chatting to the Radio Times – has confirmed when filming is set to kick off again. She was talking about assorted casting rumours, and said that “I don’t start until July so I know nothing about it yet, apart from they said I could do it, so I’m holding them to that”.
The Crown season three isn’t likely to premiere on Netflix until early 2019 at the very earliest.
