Season 8 of The Walking Dead has been a bit of a tepid affair so far, and AMC will be hoping that the latest behind the scenes shake-up will do something about that.
It’s promoted Scott Gimple, the current showrunner, to the role of chief content officer across the entire Walking Dead television universe. This suggests further spin-offs outside of the already-existing Fear The Walking Dead.
Elevated to become the latest showrunner on The Walking Dead is Angela Kang. She’s been writing for the show since 2011, and will be overseeing it from season nine onwards. She’s the fourth showrunner in the show’s history.
In announcing all of this, as you’ve probably guessed, AMC has also confirmed that season 9 of The Walking Dead will be going ahead. This isn’t a massive surprise, but it will be hoped that it’ll arrest the falling ratings that the show has been facing over the past few months. Expect the usual autumn debut for the new series.
