Gold is continuing its series of documentaries that look at classic British TV shows, and its next choice is the iconic The Young Ones.

Starring the late, great Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, Nigel Planer and Christopher Ryan, the show only ran for two series and 12 episodes in all. Yet such is its impact that if anything, its fame has only grown since.

Gold, therefore, is celebrating this. It’s going to do a fairly traditional countdown show, The Young Ones’ 20 Greatest Moments, that’ll run for an hour.

More interesting though is a new two hour documentary that’s been ordered, How The Young Ones Changed Comedy. That’s going to mix in archive footage with talking heads. Nigel Planer, Alexei Sayle, John Llloyd, Paul Jackson and Lise Mayer are all confirmed to be involved thus far.

The plan is to screen both programmes in the spring. When we get air dates, we’ll let you know.
