This Is Us will soon return to torment our emotions once again, with its third season set for a September debut. As such, the promotional campaign has stepped up a notch and delivered some fresh imagery and footage to get us hyped for the tear-gland-aggravating family drama ahead.
Entertainment Weekly has served up two exclusive images, for starters, including the snap you can see above, which has a young Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) enjoying a date at the fair.
“People expect it to be a straight line to finding one another and living happily ever after — and that may not be the case,” said Moore, on the topic of this trip back to the early days of the Pearson parents’ courtship.
“It’s extremely good television to watch these two have their origin story,” creator Dan Fogelman added. “It’s always interesting after you lose somebody — which we kind of feel like we did with Jack this past season — to almost go in and put in those old video tapes and watch them at much earlier stage of life. And I think that’s what this feels like.”
Another new photo from EW is this snap of Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) in some sort of waiting room.
“Something is going to transpire with Tess, and how does Deja fit in to the family?” Brown said to EW, offering something of a hint. “After the end of last season, she’s not what one would call a happy camper. How do Randall and Beth deal with trying to make her feel as welcomed as possible — and growing and expanding their family?”
Meanwhile, over on Twitter, Fogelman offered this video tease of Jack during his stint in Vietnam as a soldier:

As ever, then, it looks like This Is Us will juggle a whole lot of plot strands in its third season, every single one of which has the possibility to tear our emotions to shreds. Should be fun!
This Is Us season 3 will debut on NBC, for American viewers, on September 25th. The return date on More 4 is yet to be confirmed, but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
