“When a God comes to Cardiff, the world goes to Hell.”
That’s the tagline for Torchwood series 6, which is pressing ahead at Big Finish as an audio drama. This follows the success of the show’s fifth series, Aliens Among Us, which was produced and released in the same audio format last year. This revival in the audio medium occurred some six years after the televised Torchwood run came to an end with Miracle Day.
The follow-up to Aliens Among Us will be Torchwood: God Among Us, and it will pick up where its predecessor left off. This new collection of audio plays will pit the gang against an alien god, kicking off a few days after the previous series’ events wrapped up.
There will be four stories in this new set of audio dramas, and we know the titles already: first there will be ‘Future Pain’ by James Goss, followed by ‘The Man Who Destroyed Torchwood’ by Guy Adams, ‘See No Evil’ by John Dorney and ‘Night Watch’ by Tim Foley.
John Barrowman will return again to voice as Captain Jack Harkness, leading a cast comprised of Tracy-Ann Oberman as Yvonne Hartman, Paul Clayton as Mr Colchester, Alexandria Riley as Ng, Samantha Béart as Oor, Jonny Green as Tyler Steele, Rachel Atkins as Ro-Jedda and Tom Price as Sergeant Andy Davison.
Barrowman said this about the new series:
“They are really great stories in series 6, they really move the narrative forward. I find all over the world, from Puerto Rico to Paris, from London to Pensacola Florida to South America, there are huge Torchwood fans and the audience is always growing.”
Producer James Goss, who worked with Torchwood creator Russell T Davies to get series 5 just right, said this:
“We had such a great reaction to Series 5, it’s been a delight getting the cast back together to do more. Now things are established the stories are more standalone, seeing Torchwood face some tough challenges – a plague of sleep, a city that goes blind, organising a funeral, and then there’s an alien god to deal with!”
The first chunk of Torchwood series 6 will be released in October 2018, with the second third following in February 2019 and the concluding segment arriving in June 2019. You can place your pre-orders now, over on the Big Finish website.
