ITV has commissioned a second season of Unforgotten.

Starring Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar as detectives investigating a ‘cold’ murder case, Unforgotten launched on ITV last month and the six-part first season concluded last night.

ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November announced: “We are pleased with the audience response to Unforgotten and I am delighted to announce that it will be returning for a second series with a brand new story from the writer Chris Lang and Mainstreet Pictures, a winning formula who have kept ITV drama viewers gripped throughout the first series.”

Creator and writer Chris Lang added: “I am immensely excited to be writing a second series of Unforgotten and relish the challenge of introducing a brand new story, where long buried secrets will once again be slowly brought to light.”

Season 1’s cast also included Trevor Eve (Waking the Dead), Bernard Hill (Wolf Hall), Ruth Sheen (Our Girl), Tom Courtenay (Little Dorrit), Gemma Jones (Bridget Jones’s Diary), Brian Bovell (Death in Paradise), Cherie Lunghi (Secret Diary of a Call Girl) and Claire Goose (Waking the Dead).
