John Badham’s 1983 sci-fi flick WarGames has been remade as an interactive web series, under the totes trendy title of #WarGames. The original film was set during the Cold War, centring on a young hacker played by Matthew Broderick, who gained access to an American military supercomputer with fully nuclear capabilities.
Video game designer Sam Barlow, who is best known for his work on the games Her Story and Silent Hill, is spearheading the new 6-part series inspired by the film. The show has been made with the media and tech company Eko, with distribution being planned on various online platforms. A cast of unknowns has been used, and the editing of the series will make it look like the story is playing out on a computer screen, through internet activity and video chats. Viewers will be able to flick between different windows and tabs.
Here’s the trailer for this ambitious, intriguing and interactive project…
#WarGames will launch on Eko’s app, HelloEko.com, Vudu.com and Steam on March 14th. An Xbox One release is expected to follow at a later date.
