The latest edition of Doctor Who: The Fan Show has revealed a new addition to the TARDIS.

Charlie McDonnell takes a look around around the set in this week’s YouTube video and an eagle-eyed fan on Twitter has spotted a painting in the background.

The painting turns out to be a self-portrait by Rembrandt.

While no ‘celebrity historical’ stories have been announced for the new season so far, does this suggest that the Doctor and Clara will encounter the Dutch painter on their adventures this autumn?

If so then he wouldn’t be the first Dutch painter to hang out with the Doctor – Vincent van Gogh appeared in Doctor Who five years ago in Season 5’s ‘Vincent and the Doctor’.

Season 9 has been filming in Cardiff since January and will begin on BBC One on Saturday 19 September.
