Writer Steven Moffat and star Dolly Wells are Obsessed with… Inside Man.
Steven Moffat’s new BBC One thriller, Inside Man, landed last night.
Starring David Tennant, Stanley Tucci, Dolly Wells and Lydia West, it kicked off with two seemingly disparate and frankly bonkers story threads which drew together as the story progressed.
Tennant plays vicar Harry, for whom an act of kindness spirals into unexpected complications involving his son’s maths tutor Janice (Dolly Wells),
Meanwhile, Stanley Tucci’s Grieff is a criminal psychologist on death row where he takes cases like a sort of twisted Sherlock figure. Visited by investigative journalist Beth (Lydia West), we learn he applies rigorous moral standards to his work.
A chance encounter in the opening moments connect the pair; when Beth finds herself the target of unwanted attention on a train, Janice’s quick thinking de-escalates an unpleasant situation.

As viewers puzzle as to where the drama is headed, the BBC have launched a two-part companion podcast. Obsessed with… Inside Man promises to… “take listeners on a journey, delving into all the twists and turns of the series while also unravelling key moments as the story develops.”
Writer Moffat and actress Dolly Wells will discuss the story’s dark and comic themes, as well as sharing behind-the-scenes stories.
Stephen Moffat says: “Working on Inside Man has been a blast and I can’t wait to dive into the series with Dolly. She was my first thought for Janice and no one else could have played her the way she does. Between us we have plenty of behind-the-scenes info to share, and rest assured – what we can’t remember, we are more than prepared to make up.”
Dolly Wells adds: “Inside Man is a unique take on a classic detective story, so as you can imagine there’s so much for us to explore in the podcast. Working with Steven has been a privilege and a joy and I absolutely loved chatting with him about the show.”
Obsessed With… Inside Man is available on BBC Sounds from September 27th, following the second episode of the television show on BBC One. You can also catch up on BBC iPlayer.
For viewers outside the UK, Inside Man should land on Netflix either in late 2022 or early 2023.
