The show, starring Dougray Scott, will premiere on ITV’s new streaming service.
The second run of BritBox show Irvine Welsh’s Crime is set to land on ITVX. The new streamer from ITV is due to launch later this year; replacing ITV Hub, it’s also set to bring BritBox into many more customer homes.
Crime, adapted from Irvine Welsh’s bestseller, stars Dougray Scott as troubled detective Ray Lennox. Here’s the synopsis for Series 2:
We’ll re-visit Dougray Scott’s complex character, Ray Lennox, who is now settled back into life with Edinburgh’s Serious Crimes team, having fully recovered from his breakdown after the toll of his last investigation.
And when a high-ranking member of the establishment is found dead in a Leith warehouse, Lennox is thrown into a case which quickly reveals itself as the work of a serial killer. As victims mount up, Lennox realises these are anything but random. This is the work of a solitary killer with an axe to grind. Never far from his psychological turmoil, Lennox is pushed back towards his demons by this new case.
Naturally, the new six-part run remains set in Edinburgh with filming to begin in Summer 2022.
As a reminder of the show, here’s the series 1 trailer:
While the first series debuted on BritBox, it will enjoy a “free premiere” on ITVX ahead of the second series launch. As per the new business model, we expect the show to eventually migrate to linear itv after a few months.
Crime was directed by James Strong and also starred Jamie Sives, Ken Stott, Joanna Vanderham and Michael Abubakar. The first series also boasted appearances from Angela Griffin, Laura Fraser and John Simm.
Exhilarating experience
Talking of the recommission, star Dougray Scott said:
“Making Crime has been one of the most exhilarating experiences of my career. I’m so grateful to get to work once again with the great Irvine Welsh, my wonderful producing partner Tony Wood and all at Buccaneer and ITV. I feel very fortunate.”
And writer Irvine Welsh commented:
“I loved working on the first season of Crime, and Dean Cavanagh and myself are already having a blast developing scripts for the second series. It was wonderful to work with such a talented cast and we hope to push those memorable characters further this time. No more Mister Nice Guy from and Dean and I.”
Crime is produced by Buccaneer Media and Off Grid Film and TV.
We’ll keep you posted.
