Is Wednesday the start of a Netflix Addams Family franchise?

The streamer is mulling a spinoff from Wednesday starring Uncle Fester.

With the smash hit Wednesday on their hands, it’s natural that Netflix would consider expanding its world. This appears to be confirmed by a recent Bloomberg newsletter which suggests the streamer is entering its “franchise era” and looking to “establish a pipeline of Addams Family programs”.

While Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) herself is gearing up to film a second series, once family member who seems ripe for his own show is Uncle Fester.

Wednesday - Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester

Wednesday’s zany uncle, Gomez Addams’ brother, was played in this iteration of the family by Fred Armisen – albeit for a single appearance in the penultimate episode. The trick will doubtless be pinning the Saturday Night Live stalwart down for filming. As his expansive IMDb page suggests he’s an incredibly busy actor, writer and performer.

Netflix’s Franchise Era

The Bloomberg report also suggests that Netflix are looking at two spinoff shows in the universe of Peaky Blinders. One set in mid-twentieth century Boston, and another looking at the early life of Polly Shelby.

There’s also a suggestion of a television series set in the world of the action movie Extraction.

We’ll keep you posted on Wednesday, Uncle Fester and all things Addams.
