Following the model set by the BBC with BBC Three, ITV is now set to close down its ITV Encore channel, and rebrand it as an online offering instead.
The channel has offered a mix of high profile ITV repeats, as well as first-run shows such as The Frankenstein Chronicles, starring Sean Bean. But from Spring next year, it’ll no longer have a listing on EPGs, and instead will be “a box set brand”. As such, it’ll still be available on the likes of Sky, but as a mechanism by which to access boxsets of its shows.
The change will come about next spring. ITV’s catch-up service, ITV Hub, is likely to be unaffected.
